About us

The Royal Oak Cerne is a beautiful independently owned 16th century thatched freehouse pub run by a very friendly professional team. 

We pride ourselves on our great quality, home cooked delicious food, using locally sourced ingredients where possible. We have a wonderful choice of real ales, ciders and lagers, as well as a comprehensive and interesting wine list.

 When visiting the beautiful village of Cerne Abbas do take the opportunity to come and sit by our roaring log fire in winter or dine under the grape vines in the beer garden in summer.  Keep an eye on our website and facebook pages for regular events and themed evenings.

Great pub serving excellent pub food. We walked in to this lovely characterful pub on a busy Bank Holiday Monday said we had not booked and asked for a table for four. The staff were all very pleasant and we all chose various pies and they were really good. Lovely homemade fare. Good beers and a great atmosphere. This pub has not been changed to a gastro pub but kept its history. We will be back

Lovely welcoming traditional pub. We only stopped for coffee and dessert but really enjoyed it. Pets are welcome. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Food a little pricey but good size portions and tasty.

Delicious food, nice quiet atmosphere, and even though they were short staffed, they were attentive and friendly. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was magnificent 👌👌 Kid-friendliness: They provided a highchair and have kid's meal options on the menu.

Visited The Royal Oak for lunch. The menu had a brilliant choice. The standard was very high and a lot better than more expensive competitors in the area for a fraction of the price. The landlord&lady were warm and welcoming. And the quality of food was incredible. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

We were very impressed with the Royal Oak. The staff members were very friendly, the food was excellent, my husband had the game pie and I had the beef madras curry both meals were delicious, there is also a good choice of ales. I would definitely go back for another visit. Highly recommend.

Delicious Sunday roast! Best roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, lovely! We also enjoyed the huge chocolate brownies and Dorset apple cake. Great service, friendly cheerful staff and great atmosphere. Dog friendly too!

Lovely old pub. Cosy and friendly. Was great to have two vegan options for Sunday roast and both were delicious, however was no vegan pudding option so had to go without which was a shame.

Wonderful old English pub with lots of atmosphere Good selection of beers and cider. We had the Sunday roast, the pork belly was cooked well, and a good selection of veg.

The bar had a mix of tourists and locals and a friendly atmosphere. The beers we had tasted really good. The Sunday roast was delicious - we tried the roast beef and the chicken. Everybody enjoyed their food. The meat was cooked well, lots of gravy and a good amount of well cooked veggies on the side along with homemade Yorkshire puddings.

We popped in today and had lunch ,it was fantastic meal ,my grandson had the burger which he loved ,my wife had the steak pie and I had the chicken and leak .All was cooked to perfection,well done ,we will be back again,a lovely old pub and great staff.

A proper rural village pub, great staff, great service..food was great..and an array of beers and ciders, and superb quaint pub courtyard garden...thanks we had lovely dinner and evening.

Very picturesque traditional pub serving a wide variety of well known and local beers I didn't try the food but it looked well presented and certainly smelled good My favourite part was the beer garden which was just about as good as they get If you are visiting the Cerne giant I recommend dropping in here
